About John Sherman
John "The Tank" Sherman achieved success in bodybuilding at a young age. In high school he played football, basketball, and ran track and his coaches directed him not to lift heavy weights so that in fear than his performance would suffer. But upon graduation, he started training for a bodybuilding career.
He won his first show, The teenage Middleweight Class in a local contest in Houston and went on to win the Teenage Mr. Texas Title. By the age of 25 he had won 4 National titles, becoming one of the youngest champions in modern bodybuilding history and earning professional status. By the age of 28 he had 6 top 4 finishes in pro competitions, another remarkable accomplishment.
"I'll work out until I die," John says. "I've always lifted heavy. If you want big muscles, you've got to lift big weights. I not only want to look strong, I want to be strong. Through bodybuilding I've been able to push myself to the limit, see what you can do if you focus, and watch your body change. Keith Klein taught me every thing I know about nutrition, and has been with me since the beginning of my career."
"Bodybuilding is a wonderful sport, as long as you keep it in perspective. I was too consumed with it initially, and you can't get that time back. I relocated for a short time to the West Coast. It was real fast living and I missed my folks. Then Lee Labrada told me whatever I could do there, I could do back in Texas. So I moved back to Houston and been here ever since."
"Some guys don't know what to do after bodybuilding. I believe you have to be a well-rounded individual. Take up tennis, play basketball or golf because there is more to life than lifting weights. If you let life pass you by so can just be a bodybuilder, in the end all you'll have is a few trophies." |
